Reclaiming My Time (30” x 40”)

It took me a long time to come up with an idea for Modern Patriotic. It's hard to feel an affinity for the traditional aspects of US patriotism, particularly since moving back to the US and seeing the rise of nationalism and idolatry. What gives me hope is the increasing diversity of voices, representation and accountability. I was inspired to try an improv piece after seeing the work of Faith Ringgold at Glenstone. Although I have called this Reclaiming My Time, the design is open to interpretation and I liked hearing what my friends thought it meant when they first saw it.
