DeStash is Coming!
THE DESTASH IS COMING
DCMQG has a couple of great opportunities for Spring Cleaning coming up for our April Meeting!
Annual DeStash
Start sorting, cleaning, purging your stash. In past years, members have brought fabric (yardage, precuts, bundles, scraps, nicely packaged UFOs, etc), notions, rulers, thread, books/magazines, yarn, and more! The guild will also accept much of the leftover quilting fabrics for use in our charity quilts.
Raffle Restock
DCMQG raffles off small prizes at each meeting – because who doesn’t get excited about prizes?! At our April meeting, we'll be collecting donations to restock the raffle prizes. Do you have little things in your craft stash that would make great raffle prizes? A set of unopened 8 wt thread for that quilt you later decided to send to the long-armer? A fat quarter bundle you impulse purchased, but now realize you will never use? A shiny quilt ruler you bought only to find your old one in the back of the closet? DCMQG would love to accept those donations to restock the raffle! Please limit these donated to "like-new" quality items.

SEWN Mini Quilts Due
DCMQG members are participating in a cross country mini quilt swap! The theme is abstract art, inspired by the Tate Museum. The South, East, West, and North (SEWN) mini swap includes members from the Orlando, Chicago and Denver MQGs. Looking forward to seeing our members’ creativity!

Homes Not Borders & Welcome Blanket Quilt Show
DCMQG is excited to partner with Homes Not Borders and Welcome Blanket to collect donated quilts to share with refugees and other migrants who are new to the DMV as a sign of welcome and care.
Donations of quilted wall art, throw pillows, or twin-sized blankets will be excepted until March 16 in order to participate in a display at CREATE Arts Center in Silver Spring from March 22-April 12. From there, items will be donated to Homes Not Borders for families they are supporting. DCMQG will host a Quilt Show opening celebration at CREATE Arts Center: March 22 (afternoon)
914 Silver Spring Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910
Please note that quilts should not depict living things such as animals or people for cultural sensitivity and should not include baby blankets, per the agency request.

Spring Socials: Group Coordinators Needed
We need members to volunteer as hosts for the April social events! Virginia friends, please consider hosting! We've received a number of responses from other regions but we'd love to see more Virginia locations represented.
Would you like to meet more DCMQG members? DCMQG members live throughout the DMV and our membership continues to grow. We know it can be a little tricky to develop close relationships, so to help us get to know each other in smaller, local settings, the guild is organizing local socials during the month of April.
What are Spring Socials?
Spring Socials are a time set aside for small groups (6-8 people) of DCMQG members to spend a few hours together. It’s that simple. Groups can get together for a meal or an activity. Last fall we grouped interested members by geographic area. This spring, we are trying a different approach.
We are looking for volunteers to organize and host a social activity. The activity could be a meal at a restaurant or someone’s home, desserts, or a happy hour. Or you could coordinate a visit to a museum or organize a sew-in at a local library. Once the hosts have been identified, and we have an idea of how many people could be accommodated at each event, then we will post the options and you will be able to sign up for the activity/date/time that works best for you.
IMPORTANT - if you are interested in volunteering, please make specific plans/suggestions. As a host, you can plan the event and host a fun group of quilty friends. This should alleviate most of the stress in coordinating a group activity as the date/time and event details will already be set!
Interested in being a group coordinator? Great! Please let us know by submitting the form by Thursday, March 13, 2025. Please find a link to the form in your latest Stitch email.

March Regional Meeting will be in Washington, DC!
We hope you can join us for the DCMQG March Regional meeting at Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Library. Downtown DC has plenty of garages, street parking, and a very convenient metro stop.
The MLK Memorial Library is within walking distance to several restaurants and the National Portrait Gallery! After our meeting, grab some friends and explore DC.
