Wrapped in Love for Justice

Dolores Huerta

Dolores Huerta was the recipient of our first Wrapped in Love quilt, delivered to her in July 2021, honoring her countless efforts over her 91+ years (and still going strong!).

This row quilt consisted of blocks representing her many areas of work, including the United Farm Workers of America, the Equal Rights Amendment, the Feminist Majority Foundation, and her Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded in 2011.

The quilt came together through the efforts of 16 members of the guild who continue to be inspired by the tireless efforts of Dolores.

Heather Booth

On February 13, 2022, the DCMQG Social Justice Committee delivered its second quilt to social change movement organizer Heather Booth.

The quilt includes a color palette representing the jewel-toned coats women leaders wore at the 2021 inauguration, on a white background celebrating women's suffrage. Members were invited to make blocks of any design using the color palette.

Heather, a long time DC resident, is known nationally as an activist and organizer for civil rights, social, racial, and economic justice.

In a thank you note to the quilt contributors, Heather wrote, "I have never felt more wrapped in love than on receiving the quilt that you made. Thank you for this extraordinary gift. It will keep me warm both physically and emotionally as I continue to work to make this a better world -- wrapped in love."
