Gretchen Carder

All-American

I'll be frank; I don't know how patriotic to be at this moment in history. So, instead of focusing on the wurst parts of being an American, I hope to bring some levity to the table. I choose to celebrate something we can all rally behind: the humble hot dog.

My design was inspired by the fabric Hot Dog! by Alexander Henry I had floating around my stash (see back of quilt). Each of the 12 hot dogs was illustrated on the computer and then every piece was cut out using a Cricut and raw-edge appliquéd on to the final quilt.

I relish this guild and the opportunity to be in the show this year!

Hi! I'm Gretchen Carder. I live in Sterling, Virginia with my husband and greyhound. I'm a graphic designer by training so it probably isn't a surprise that soon after being gifted a sewing machine in 2017 I became infatuated with quilting. Turns out that every design principal I learned in school can be applied to quilting. In 2020, I decided to pursue quilting professionally and haven't worked a day since.
