Our Social Justice Committee was formed in 2020 as part of our bylaws revision. A key aspect of the revision was an inclusion statement, and the SJC is going to help the guild put its words into actions by spearheading projects that foster a more inclusive, equitable, tolerant community around us.
DCMQG is thrilled to announce we are an official Community Partner of Welcome Blanket!
"Welcome Blanket is a platform for engagement that transforms the abstract concept of immigration into a tangible crowd-sourced artistic action. We ask you to use your head, heart, hands, and histories to craft the country we wish to see."
As a Community Partner, the DCMQG will make and donate quilts to a local organization that provides support and care to refugees and forced migrants in the DC area. Each quilt will be paired with a "welcome note" penned by the maker, and the quilts and notes will be displayed locally to inspire conversation and compassion. More details about DCMQG's involvement will be coming soon! The Welcome Blanket partnership is a project of the DCMQG Social Justice Committee.
