Aynex Mercado

Uniting States of America

30 x 35”

Our country is breaking apart. We need to do something about it. This quilt uses Civil War era blocks and fabrics because that is almost where we are again. We have two different sets of facts, we need to agree on what is true first. We have to remember we are brothers and sisters and love one another like the family we are. Finally we need to stop disrespecting and hurting each other. It is the only way this country is not going to unravel.

Ed. note: this quilt was awarded Best Use of Theme: Common Threads at the 2021 Vermont Quilt Festival and was recently featured at the Delaplaine Arts Center’s juried exhibition in Frederick, Maryland.
