Laurie Meyers

Shirts & Stripes Forever

60” x 69”

This quilt is made from a combination of 26 shirts and leftover scraps from other projects. It celebrates the long held American value of "waste not, want not" which today is better known as sustainability. Included in this quilt are several fabrics from my grandmother's scrap box. My grandmother was born in a sod house on the Kansas prairie and she knew how to make beautiful quilts from humble fabrics. This is an American quilting tradition I am proud to support today.

Laurie began quilting when she was a teen during summer visits to see her grandmother nearly 50 years ago. Laurie is a social worker who has a private practice in mental health. Now that her two children are adults you can mainly find her in her little sewing room making scrappy quilts.
